BETWEEN US

2016 100 min Romantic drama United States

A LOT CAN HAPPEN BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE

→ A look at commitment issues through the eyes of thirtysomething millenials, in the vein of Judd Apatow’s Love

→ Strong performances by up-and-coming actors Ben Feldman, Olivia Thirlby, Analeigh Tipton and Adam Golberg

→ Official selection at TriBeCa Film Festival and distributed by IFC Films in the US

PRODUCTION STATEMENT

Rafael Palacio Illingworth first feature film, MACHO, has been made with the lowest production budget possible. Nonetheless, it won the Best Micro-Budget Feature at Raindance Film Festival in the UK and was acquired for worldwide distribution by IFC Films.

Under The Milky Way has followed Rafael’s work for a long time and was very curious to see more of his second movie, Between us, which was also produced with a shoestring budget.

The film is located in Silver Lake, a very iconic neighborhood of Los Angeles, not too far from where Under The Milky Way US is located. It is, above all, a friendship movie from a local community where the crew and talents are from, living a similar lifestyle to the one depicted in the film: same generation, same desires, same doubts…

SYNOPSIS

Henry and Dianne are on the verge of settling down — that terrifying leap into home-owning, suburb-living, dog-walking, child-rearing coupledom. In short: they feel their carefree days as city-dwelling young adults coming to an abrupt and depressing end. Their heads tell them it’s the right thing, but their hearts are having second thoughts...and some unknown force seems to compel them, with that tantalizing question of “What if?” When all of their insecurities, fears and uncertainty boil to the surface during an explosive fight, the couple spends their first night apart in years. Each with their own demons to hunt down, Henry and Dianne will be tempted by the allure of another life, another lover, before ultimately realizing why they fell in love in the first place.
